Nextgencarrier
Version 3.1.5 · Windows Desktop Application · Microsoft Store
Product Overview
Universal File Conversion Tool is a native Windows desktop application that converts data files between eight industry-standard formats in a single pass. Designed for software developers, data analysts, service bureaus, telecom carriers, and IT professionals who routinely move data between dissimilar systems, it eliminates the need for custom scripts or intermediate tools.
The application provides a complete conversion workspace with field-level mapping, inline expression support, record filtering, and direct integration with SQL Server, Azure SQL, and MySQL — all without requiring any cloud connectivity, scripting knowledge, or database management tools.
Universal File Conversion Tool is published by Nextgencarrier, a software company whose founder has over 40 years of carrier operations experience. The product is built on production data requirements from real carrier environments, not theoretical use cases.
Features
Map any input field to any output field by name or position. Auto-Map assigns fields automatically where names match. Manual overrides handle renamed, reordered, or renamed columns. The mapper enforces 10-character DBF field name limits automatically and handles truncation and padding for fixed-width SDF output.
Derived output fields are built with inline CALC expressions supporting arithmetic operators, string concatenation, conditional logic via IIf(), zero-padding for numeric fields, and substring operations. CALC fields are computed at conversion time with no preprocessing required.
Records can be filtered before conversion using one or more skip rules applied to any input field. Supported match operators include equals, not-equals, LIKE pattern matching, numeric comparisons (<, >, <=, >=), and EMPTY field detection. Multiple rules are combined with AND or OR logic.
A full SQL table management interface is built directly into the application. Users can create, drop, rename, and truncate SQL Server or MySQL tables; manage column indexes; set column constraints including UNIQUE; and execute free-form T-SQL statements through the built-in Run SQL executor — without requiring SQL Server Management Studio or any other external tool.
A single input file can be split into multiple output streams — MAIN, HDR, and TRL — based on the value of a CAT, GRP, or TYP field in each record. Routing rules are defined in the configuration file and evaluated at run time. This feature was originally designed for telecom EMI record processing but applies to any data set with content-based routing requirements.
Conversion configurations are stored as .cfg files and managed through the built-in Config Manager. Each config captures input and output format selections, field layouts, field mappings, skip rules, CALC expressions, and output options. Configs can be created from scratch, imported from emigui, edited in the built-in configuration editor, and reused across jobs without re-entry.
Supported Formats
Any format in the table below may serve as either input or output. Conversions between any two formats are supported in a single pass — no intermediate file required.
| Format | Extension | As Input | As Output | Dependency |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DBF (dBase / FoxPro) | .dbf | ✓ | ✓ | None |
| SDF (Fixed-Width Text) | .txt / any | ✓ | ✓ | Field layout defined in .cfg |
| Delimited / CSV | .csv / .txt | ✓ | ✓ | None |
| Microsoft Access | .mdb / .accdb | ✓ | ✓ | Access Database Engine 2016 |
| SQL Server / Azure SQL | n/a | ✓ | ✓ | ODBC Driver 17 or later |
| MySQL | n/a | ✓ | ✓ | MySQL ODBC Driver 8.x |
| XML | .xml | ✓ | ✓ | None |
| Excel XLSX | .xlsx | ✓ | ✓ | None |
* Microsoft Access Database Engine 2016 Redistributable is a free download from Microsoft and does not require Microsoft Office or Access to be installed.
Use Cases
Process EMI billing records, convert CDR files between carrier formats, and route records to MAIN / HDR / TRL output streams based on record type — without writing custom code for each job.
Migrate legacy DBF and SDF tables into SQL Server or MySQL, manage destination table schemas from within the tool, and verify row counts at completion — all in a single workflow.
Convert test data between formats during development, generate seed files for SQL databases from CSV or DBF sources, and verify output schemas without switching to external utilities.
Pull records from SQL Server or MySQL into Excel XLSX or CSV for analysis, apply skip rules to pre-filter data before export, and use CALC fields to derive computed columns on the fly.
Automate recurring data migration tasks using saved .cfg files, run conversions on a schedule, and maintain consistent output formatting across environments with no scripting required.
Move data off aging DBF-based systems into modern SQL databases or Excel without third-party ETL platforms. Field mapping and CALC expressions handle schema differences during migration.
